About Art Addict

Art Addict (Dr. Jack Roberts) is a dealer, focusing on post-war and contemporary prints and multiples. Many galleries and dealers act as ‘brokers’ joining buyers and sellers. We do not sell or list artworks that we do not own - our guarantee is that if we list an artwork, we own it and it is available for sale. Within the website you will find a list of artworks that are currently available for purchase, as well as a history of Art Addict.

“I have been dealing in art since 2008...I place ‘value’ in having owned a piece of art, having lived with it - even if I no longer have that piece, I feel invigorated having held it within my collection.”

About Dr. Jack Roberts

I am invested in art, but to dispel any potential misunderstanding, the investment in question for me is not a pursuit of financial gain, but that of emotional investment. Art matters for more than just money, I am fascinated by the multitude of motivating factors that stimulate people to ‘invest’ in art, whether they be investing for economic, symbolic, cultural, or social reasons. The objectified state of cultural value is my motivation to ‘invest’ in art. In other words, I am ‘addicted’ to possessing objects from the canon of art history. When talking to artists, many speak of an unquantifiable urge to make, it overrides other more logical necessities. They have to make, they are addicted to it and have to continually create as if the act of making is their ‘fix’. I have a similar unquantifiable urge, the illogical urge to possess art – I am an ‘Art Addict’

I place ‘value’ in having owned a piece of art, having lived with it - even if I no longer have that piece, I feel invigorated having held it within my collection. I do not conform to the typical paradigm of the ‘art dealer’, I do not have large levels of stock, turn over a large volume of sales or have a stable of artists as the mainstay of my dealing activities. Instead, as a dealer I buy individual pieces of art that I feel passionate about, which excite me. Many galleries and dealers act as ‘brokers’ joining buyers and sellers, this is not what I do (I do not sell or list artworks that I do not own) - my guarantee is that if I list an artwork, I own it and it is available for sale.

I have been dealing in art since 2008. My career as a dealer started through curating and hosting exhibitions in London for artists and exhibiting their art at art fairs (further details about the history of Art Addict can be seen here).

Scholarly research into artists, the art object and the art market is also a passion - my interest in art is not confined to the ‘trading’ of art. I hold a degree in Fine Art, a Masters Degree in Arts and Museum Management and a PhD in Fine Art, which questioned the interrelationship of artists and dealers within the high-end contemporary art market. I have written on the topic of fine art and the artists’ involvement within the art market and also lectured on these subjects (further details about the research of Art Addict can be seen here). Alongside this, I also support regional and local arts charities, schools, museums and public galleries. In the past this has seen me working with them to develop their organisation, their processes and helping them to secure funding, but more recently has also included me lending artworks from my collection for public exhibition (further details about this work can be seen here).

I am a dealer, but I am also an art market expert, a connoisseur and an authority on the artist-dealer relationship. In every sense, I am an Art Addict.
